Small things.
Magnificent impact.
We back small, unusual projects and the people behind them. Instead of starting everything ourselves, we partner with groups already doing the work and help them go further.
A fourth grade team took on a disappearing coastline.
A Bourg Elementary FIRST LEGO League team, dressed as fishermen in tan hats and white boots, built its Innovation Project around Louisiana's eroding coast. Their focus was Tribal lands that hold burial grounds and sacred items. They placed 2nd in the state out of 60 teams.
Several boats bring sacks of oyster shell to the site. Then a line of volunteers carries the sacks by hand and places them along the shoreline to build a reef. In doing that, they step on the very shoreline they are trying to protect.
One barge sits offshore and carries a large load of sacks, which means fewer boats and less fuel. A floating conveyor belt, like the ones that move rock and gravel in a quarry, moves the sacks to the reef site from the water. No one walks on the shoreline, so the land is not damaged, and the work goes faster with less manual labor.
rebelDFM has committed $10,000 to build a working prototype of the team's design. Spoked Solutions will provide engineering and design management at no cost.
The project depends on the tribal council's decision to accept it. We are waiting on that decision, and no funds have been paid out yet.
The team worked with the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana, Theresa Dardar of the Pointe-Au-Chien Indian Tribe, and Spoked Solutions to understand the logistics.
Team sponsors: Christi Triche, Jessica Naccio and Jeri Brooke Chidester.

It doesn't matter where I'm from.
It doesn't matter what they say.
It doesn't matter what obstacles appear.
DFM stands for Doesn't Fucking Matter. rebelDFM was born out of frustration with the excuses that society and individuals use to avoid bettering themselves.
It means more now. Diversity For the Masses is one version. The letters are meant to represent everyone, so they will mean something different to each person and group we support.
We encourage small, existing groups to reach out so we can make them stronger in their cause.
We look for distinctive projects. A headcount is not how we measure a good one.
Our methods may be non-mainstream. We say what we are doing and where the money goes.
Four ways to be a rebel
Adventure for underrepresented youth who would otherwise miss out because of stereotypes placed on them from within and outside.
Empowering and encouraging women to break through structural, institutional, cultural, educational and societal barriers.
Giving back to, protecting and understanding the earth, so that we can experience it and improve our mental health.
No More Excuses. A cultural mantra for anyone ready to say "I got it."
